Octopus Studios believes in honoring artists and giving them the spotlight they deserve. We have enabled several artists to tell their stories, sing their songs, dance to the beats of their expressions, and mesmerize like-minded audiences.
In addition to helping produce some award-winning indie films that went on to win international acclaim in festival circuits, we also conceptualize well-curated film screenings to shed light on intriguing indie projects and originals.
Our critics are still riddled by Gutti's success! This film won us international acclaim and, well, took us around the globe for film festivals. You have to watch it to believe it.
This hard-hitting experimental film on violence and rage was well-received in film critic circles.
A silent film juxtaposing a young boy's misdeed in the past and the grown-up's conscience in the present and the circumstance arising from it, is another feather that we proudly wear.
With regular screenings and meets, we grew a network of short filmmakers and movie buffs from a small close-knit contingent to a large, active, and involved community. Besides treating enthusiasts with the newest and freshest scripts, films, and ideas on the block, the event also became a platform for discussion on all things film. Over the seven years of its existence, there have been 25 editions of these Short Evenings with Films with 5000+ films submitted and 150 featured filmmakers. And we aren't done filming, watching, appreciating, or discussing anytime soon, and we hope you aren't either.
As long as the Shakespearean wisdom "The world is a stage" is alive, so will the virtue of good theatre be relevant. However, theatre today is in dire need of support and hard work to ensure that the art form gets the limelight it deserves. And we took up the onus of supporting theatre with involvement at many levels - from writing and directing some compelling tales to hosting some must-watch plays from across the world.
Theatre that took birth and grew relevant as a voice for the voiceless, ironically enough, today needs a voice to speak for its protection and propagation. A classic MullubaayKattiVocheDhamDhamDham was revived to reiterate the human folly of stressing on urbanization and development at the cost of ruining the planet and deteriorating the quality of life. And understanding that the context for the staging is as important as the message itself, we even took this street play to Hyderabad Urban Makeover, where the dialogue was centered around sustainable development. Our street play Gograhanam about Indian women and their destinies was more than well-received by the audience. Written and directed by the veteran Tanikella Bharani, this play sure had a thumping message and an equally thumping response.
Much like our revival of Telugu classic Gograhanam, we enabled many originals like Daddy's Li'l Girl to give voice to the issues of gender identities, while also staging plays on a variety of issues, including the likes of Save Earth – a dialogue on the deterioration of the planet in the hands of mankind. Though we revere relevance and a message-oriented theatre, we don't mean to be didactic. We love to educate, question, and confront realities while we entertain. Take for instance our hit production, Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. Although the play is about a dysfunctional family with entertaining interpersonal dynamics, the audiences who read between the lines see the parallels between that family and any dysfunctional country.
